What CosmoLex's AI Intake actually does
CosmoLex's pitch is speed and consolidation. AI Intake, the AI Intake Form Builder, Document Summarization, and AI-powered natural-language filtering became available to CosmoLex customers starting August 13, 2026 — independently confirmed by legal-tech trade coverage, not just CosmoLex's own announcement (LawNext, Aug. 13, 2026).
Per CosmoLex's own materials, AI Intake uses AI to instantly generate custom intake forms and convert existing legacy PDF and Word intake forms into digital, fillable ones. Once a prospective client submits a form, the system automatically maps that data into a contact or lead record and triggers workflows — document delivery, consultation booking, follow-up communications — without anyone touching the file. All of it runs inside CosmoLex's own platform, explicitly positioned as removing the need for a separate, third-party intake tool (CosmoLex, "Automate Client Intake with AI").
For a firm that already runs its accounting and matters inside CosmoLex and wants intake handled in the same login, that's a real and defensible design choice — the same completeness logic CosmoLex applies to trust accounting, covered in our CosmoLex vs DROZlegal trust-accounting comparison.
Where AI Intake's job ends
Every source we found describes a forms-and-workflow problem being solved, not a full legal-practice problem. CosmoLex's own intake guides (including the family-law guide cited above) do describe AI-supported intake prompting for related names and triggering a conflict check — but every source we checked, including the August 13 launch coverage itself, frames that as a flag for the team to review and clear manually, not an automatic match against the firm's own CRM or client register. Opening a matter and drafting an engagement letter go further still: no source we found, CosmoLex's own or independent, describes AI Intake doing either. That's not a knock — those steps may simply be out of scope for this release — but they're not publicly documented, so this piece doesn't claim them either way. No pricing specific to AI Intake was published in any source we checked; CosmoLex's general pricing is per-user and tiered, and the feature appears to ship as part of the platform rather than as a separate line item, though no vendor pricing page confirms that.
For a small or mid-sized Ontario firm, that gap matters: a clean contact record is useful, but the two steps that actually carry legal risk — the conflict check and the engagement letter — are exactly where most "AI intake" tools stop.
DROZlegal's intake-to-engagement chain: the alternative
DROZlegal starts where CosmoLex's AI Intake leaves off. A submission through a public, firm-branded intake form is AI-triaged and conflict-checked against the firm's own CRM records under Law Society of Ontario Rule 3.4, and a provisional matter is created automatically. An engagement letter then auto-drafts into a lawyer-approval queue — ready for sign-off, never sent on its own. Engagement approval is one of six actions permanently hard-gated to a human at DROZlegal, alongside trust-money movement, court filings, settlement, commencing litigation, and sending email to the outside world; the platform can draft and queue, but it cannot send on its own.
This isn't a lab demo: the chain is live in production, and a timed live run recorded end to end from public submission to a drafted engagement letter came in at about a minute. Client data stays in AWS ca-central-1 (Canada) throughout.

Which one fits your firm
Be honest about the trade-off. If your firm already lives inside CosmoLex for accounting and matters, and what you want is a faster-built form with clean data landing in a contact record and a workflow that follows up automatically, AI Intake is a genuine upgrade over a static web form — and worth evaluating on CosmoLex's own terms.
If you're an Ontario firm and the thing actually keeping a partner up at night is a missed conflict or a new file sitting untouched for two days, a cleaner contact record doesn't solve that. DROZlegal's chain is scoped specifically to that gap: it checks the inquiry against records you already hold under a rule you already answer to, and it gets the file to an approval-ready engagement letter — not just a tidier lead.
For the platform-wide view rather than intake specifically, see our full CosmoLex vs DROZlegal comparison. For how the engagement letter itself gets drafted, see AI That Drafts Engagement Letters. And if you're evaluating any AI-intake vendor, not just these two, our Lawyer AI Academy module on vetting AI vendors covers the four questions worth asking before you sign — training data, retention, processing location, and approval gates. DROZlegal's own AI Agents page has the full technical picture of the intake-to-engagement chain described above.
